From bad to worse

Reading Job starts by giving us a good picture of who Job is. He is a man of God who intercedes for his family. He is such a man of God, that even God brags about him. “There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Then God gives the enemy permission to “shake things up” or “stir the pot” in Job’s life. Where one thing after another happens, he loses his ox, donkeys, servants, sheep, camels, and children. He literally got this news one after the other. Rather than complaining, cursing God, or getting angry, he fell on the ground and worshiped. “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” (Job1:20 NIV) How do you respond when you get bad news? Are you quick to get angry, stress out, or allow your emotions to take over? You see the enemy can take things or people out of your life but one thing he can’t take away is your worship. When you face trial and tribulation, worship the name of the LORD. It’s not easy, but it makes a difference. I speak of experience. You see, my family and I were in the hospital and saw my dad take his last breath here on earth. As painful as it was, all I could say was “Thank you Jesus”, over and over again. As much as. I wanted to talk to my dad in his last moments, all I could do was worship God for the dad he had blessed me with. Even as I remember that moment, it brings me to tears. As I said, it is not easy to worship in the pain or the “bad to worse moments” but when your world begins to tremble... let that be the beginning sound of your worship.

Prayer: God, you are good. In ALL times you are a good father. Help me worship you in the “from bad to worse” moments. Help me keep my eyes on you and you alone for your honor and glory, amen.
