“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness… The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” Lamentations 3:22–26

Sometimes life feels heavy...like the weight of yesterday’s mistakes, the grief of unanswered prayers, or the silence of waiting too long for change. The book of Lamentations is raw with sorrow, yet in the very center of the book, we find a bright ray of hope: God’s love has no expiration date. His mercies are fresh, not stale. They are new every morning.

God doesn’t grow tired of extending compassion. Even when He allows seasons of discipline or waiting, it is never from a place of cruelty. Verses 31–33 remind us: “For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.”

That means God doesn’t delight in our pain... He delights in restoring us. His love holds us steady even when we’ve wandered. His mercy greets us even when we’ve failed.

And so we’re invited to do what verses 40–42 say: “Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD! We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.”

These verses aren’t meant to leave us hopeless, but to guide us back to the One who always stands ready to forgive.

When we honestly examine our hearts, we don’t find condemnation waiting for us, we find a faithful God with open arms. A God who calls us not to despair, but to return, to seek Him, to rest in His compassion that is far greater than our sin.

Friend, this means today can be a new beginning. You don’t have to carry yesterday’s weight into today. You don’t have to wonder if God has finally had enough of you. His love is bigger, His faithfulness stronger, and His mercies closer than you think. All He asks is that you come broken, honest, and willing to return.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness never runs dry. When my heart grows heavy with shame, regret, or waiting, remind me that You do not cast me off forever. Help me to return to You with honesty, trusting that You are a God who forgives, restores, and loves with compassion that never ends. Today, I rest in the truth that You are good to those who wait on You. Amen.
